Spray Tanning | Everything you need to know.

For today's post i am going to tell you guys everything you need to know about spray tan, from prepping your skin, the application, the aftercare and other information that you will need to know.
Lets get straight to it.

Skin Prep : 24 hours before application
1 ) Shower, when you put your body into hot water you are opening up all of your pores, so this must be done 24 hours prior to your application to allow your pores to close.
2 ) Exfoliate, this will help you remove all the dead skin, dirt and previous tan which will make the tan go on so much nicer.
3 ) Shave, just like showering, once you shave your legs your pores are open.

The reason why we do not recommend showering, exfoliating and shaving right before your spray tan is because once your pores are open, it lets in a lot of unwanted bacteria which will lead to little pimples, lumps on and red dots on the skin so in order to avoid that do it 24 hours before so your skin has time to cool off and allow your pores to close.

Skin Prep : Day of application
1 ) Avoid using any deodorant or perfume the day of your spray tan.
2 ) Avoid using any moisturiser all over the body instead, if you have a very bad dry patch apply the tiniest amount of moisturiser just to that area and that will act as a barrier to allow the tan to not stick to the pacific area.
3 ) When going for your spray tan, make sure you wear dark loose clothing, Wearing dark clothes just means if any tan does transfer it wont be noticeable, and wear loose clothes! you do not want to be putting on tight clothing straight after your application as it will rub off.

Spray Tan Application Information
1 ) Depending on your salon choice etc, your therapist will ask you what colour you would like to achieve.
If it is your first time getting a spray tan and getting the brand of tan, let your therapist know they will recommend what would be best for you and your skin tone especially for your first time as you do not want to go completely dark if you are not use to it, start with something light to medium and see how you feel after it.
2 ) Most salons use sticky feet, all you need to do is make sure the bottoms of your feet are not wet etc and stick your feet directly to the stickiness, this should be done so no tan will be get to the souls of your feet.
3 ) Every salon should supply you with a hair net, to keep all of your hair out off your face and out of the way.
4 ) When getting your spray tan your therapist will tell you each way to move so make sure you listen carefully.
5 ) When application is complete do not get straight back into your clothes! wait a couple of minutes to allow all of the tan to dry otherwise it will all rub off on your clothes.
6 ) As said above make sure you wear loose clothes and light shoes right after your application. No underwear should be worn right after getting sprayed as your bra is tight to the skin and will leave unwanted marks.

If you have any questions while you are in a salon make sure to ask, your therapist will tell you everything you need to know.

Aftercare
1 ) Do not allow yourself to get your skin wet once your tan is developing, you should avoid any activity including washing dishes, exercising etc.
2 ) Avoid touching your tan, so do not have any physical contact.
3 ) Wait the recommended time given by your therapist before washing it off.
4 ) Shower the right way, wash it off with warm water, avoid using any shower gels etc, and do not scrub, just rinse it all off.
5 ) Be aware when touching any fabrics that some tan rub off and stain, E.g. Bed sheets.

Maintaining
1 ) Avoid taking baths, only take showers.
2 ) After any shower do not rub your skin make sure you pat yourself dry, rubbing will cause some of the tan to come off.
3 ) Moisturise everyday and especially on any dry areas, this will help to prolong your tan, help stop it from going patchy and fade evenly.
4 ) As your hands and face are always on show, bare in mind that will fade the quickest, as you are constantly washing your hands during the day the tan will not last as long as it will on the rest of your body, same goes for your face. So you should always have a back up tan for them areas if you are on a night out, or have any special events.
5 ) After 3 days, if it okay to do a light exfoliation, so do not go in with any exfoliating gloves, such a light body scrub this will just allow the tan to wear off properly on any drier areas.
